Provost Kertzer, Corey Brettschneider, Suzanne de la Monte, Timothy Herbert, Lynne Joyrich, Kiri Miller, Eric Suuberg, Corey Walker, Brittaney Check, Yelen Chihombori Quao, Michelle Site, Michael Stewart, Ryan Hartigan, Eva Glieberman, Sunil Hebbar, Charlie Kroll, and Ken McDaniel were unable to attend.

The minutes of the November 9, 2010 meeting were amended and approved.

Kelly Garrett, Coordinator of the LGBTQ Resource Center (LGBTQRC), reported on the accomplishments of the Resource Center since her presentation at the October 12, 2010 meeting of the BUCC. In addition to conducting a faculty teach-in in response to student suicides across the country, the LGBTQRC has implemented a visibility campaign and passive programming. It has also increased its ally workshops and safe zone trainings, and has extended the hours of the Resource Center and added to its student staff. Ms. Garrett next spoke about the current work of the LGBTQRC which includes the development of workshops for teaching assistants on inclusive learning and the improvement of services for transgender students. The Resource Center is also developing ways to bring additional visibility to LGBTQ issues during orientation and expanding fall programming for National Coming Out Week, Bisexuality Visibility Day, and Trans Day of Remembrance.

Katherine Bergeron, Dean of the College, provided an update on the work of the Brown Committee on ROTC, which she chairs. The Committee was established by President Simmons to review the history of military education at Brown, to evaluate current policies on ROTC, and to make recommendations with respect to the appropriate role for Brown in officer training programs. The Committee consists of seven faculty members, two undergraduate students and one graduate student. Dean Bergeron reviewed the timeline for the work of the Committee. The first meetings were held in February and meetings with campus groups are scheduled for March and April. Members of the Brown community have access to the Committee's website where they can learn about issues relating to ROTC. A survey is being sent to alumni to collect their views on having Brown serve as a host campus for a ROTC unit. Dean Bergeron will present the Report of the Committee on ROTC at the May faculty meeting.

The next meeting of the Brown University Community Council will be held on April 26, 2011 from 4:00–5:30 pm in the Kasper Multipurpose Room, Stephen Robert ’62 Campus Center.
